Secret Cities hail from Fargo, North Dakota and formed in 2002. MJ Parker and Charlie Gokey were barely 15 when they met at band camp, but a shared love of psychedelia and scads of secret, unheard songs between them drew the pair together. They passed cassettes back and forth across the tundra of their home state, each manipulating and adding to the other's work via 4-track. Jackie Beckey, Crystal Brinkman & Crystal Myslajek are Brute Heart, from Minneapolis. Brute Heart formed in 2007 after Myslajek and Beckey, who were next-door neighbors, joined musical forces while both working on the BareBones Puppet Theater’s annual show in Hidden Falls Park. Beckey was directing the music and Myslajek was in the band. Driving to a catering job at a flower farm in Wisconsin, Myslajek mentioned to Brinkman, who was her co-worker, that she and Beckey were looking for a drummer.
