From last.fm:
Long before rising to prominence as leader of the insurgent country group The Jayhawks (and the all-star collective Golden Smog), Gary Louris grew up in Toledo, OH, where he took piano lessons as a youngster. When he was 14, his mother gave him a classical guitar, suggesting he could bring the instrument to parties and become more popular. He started writing songs in college, but it wasn't until he had graduated that he purchased his first electric guitar. Read more about Gary Louris on Last.fm.

Grant Hart
From St Paul
First show since since August 19, 2010 • First Mainroom show since September 28, 2008 • 17th show on MN Live's calendar since September 2, 2005
From last.fm:
Grant Hart is best known as the drummer (and singer and songwriter) in Hüsker Dü. Following the band's breakup, Hart released a solo album, Intolerance, on which he played most of the instruments himself. In the mid-90s, he formed the band Nova Mob, which released two albums before disbanding. Hart subsequently returned to his solo career. Much has been made of the volatile relationship Hart had with Husker Du guitarist Bob Mould and the band's acrimonious break-up with fans of the band spliting into two camps and searching for cutting remarks on the solo albums of both men. From last.fm:
“We started out playing in high school in St. Paul to a crowd of hip-hop kids, thug kids, nerd kids and honor students,” Heiruspecs bassist Twinkie Jiggles says. “Eventually, the school paper wrote about us and said we were the best band out of Central High since Mint Condition. Then we played our first gig in Minneapolis when I was 15 and my dad showed up and smelled weed.” Not many bands lock into their sound in high school or manage to hang together for seven years, but Heiruspecs has and now the young 20-somethings are seasoned vets. Dessa
From Minneapolis
First show since since August 21, 2010 • First Mainroom show since October 1, 2006 • 22nd show on MN Live's calendar since October 12, 2005
From last.fm:
Born Margaret Wander, Dessa’s first release with Doomtree, False Hopes, introduced a unique sensibility to underground hip-hop: literary, bitter-sweet, and wry. She alternated between a clever, droll persona as an emcee and her earnest, unaffected delivery as a singer with a low, clear alto voice. Her a cappella arrangements delicate and expressive, full of sad, old world harmonies. False Hopes attracted a varied set of ferociously dedicated fans in the Midwest and beyond.
