In late 2003, just two years after 9/11, The OaKs's Ryan Costello sold everything he owned, joined a humanitarian organization and moved to Afghanistan. Costello lived there for two years, working in the Central Afghan mountains with returned refugees, teaching them creative agricultural techniques and becoming fluent in their native language, Farsi. From last.fm:
Three worthless beings have composed expressive and negative music in between bouts of illness, insanity, and incarceration. The only one adored. Attempted suicide in 2003. Jumped into the Mississippi River to die, but still live years later and onward. Punk as fuck. The Funeral and the twilight on Last.fm.
