Bernie King
From Minneapolis
First show since since January 22, 2008 • First Fine Line show since December 18, 2006 • 16th show on MN Live's calendar since December 18, 2006
From last.fm:
Like much of American music, the leitmotif of “KING” is sin and salvation. Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Marty Robbins, you complete the list. Have it on my desk by three. This the earnest work of a student of that school of American music. King walks the wavering line of a mortal held to the impossible standards of a hypocritical world. There is someone or something just ou of sight in almost ever song, someone or something evil. The songs are sincere and evocative, defiant and a bit world-weary. There affectations in the vocals that could be taken as homage. Read more about Bernie King on Last.fm.
Ha Ha Tonka
From Springfield, Missouri
First Twin Cities show since since November 10, 2007 • First Fine Line show
From last.fm:
With a "Bible in one hand, broken bottle in the other" (Spin June '09) Ha Ha Tonka return with their sophomore effort on Bloodshot Records, Novel Sounds of the Nouveau South. The album takes listeners on a complex tour of the South—through lynchings and mob violence, sacrifice and reconciliation. It’s dense subject matter for any artist, but delivered beautifully on this record by these native sons of the Ozarks from Springfield, Missouri. Read more about Ha Ha Tonka on Last.fm.
