Poliça (often written as Polica) is an American indie rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota with an electronic and R&B sound. The band was founded in 2011 by Ryan Olson and Channy Leaneagh, who had previously collaborated in the soft-rock band Gayngs. Their first album, Give You The Ghost, was released in 2012, and received praise from critics, including Grammy winner and Bon Iver founder Justin Vernon who told Rolling Stone, "They're the best band I've ever heard." Now known as "the Godfathers of the Twin Cities punk music scene," The Suicide Commandos were formed in 1974 when Chris Osgood and Dave Ahl asked Steve Almaas to join their new band, named after a 1969 Aldo Ray movie. Their creed was simple: play fast & loud, and have fun. By 1975, the band had begun to build a following at The Blitz Bar in the basement of The Roaring Twenties strip club in downtown Minneapolis. The most well known Sims is part of the Doomtree collective and is a prominent up-and-coming figure on the underground hiphop scene. Haley Bonar (born 1983, Brandon, Manitoba) is an American alternative country singer-songwriter who hails from South Dakota. She has lived in Duluth and St. Paul, Minnesota. In July 2009, she moved to Portland, Oregon, where she spent a year writing songs for her newest album Golder. She plays mostly acoustic guitar and a rhodes or wurlitzer organ, either solo or with her Minneapolis-based band, including Jeremy Ylvisaker and Mike Lewis of Andrew Bird fame, as well as long time band mates Luke Anderson on drums and Jacob Hanson on guitar.
