From last.fm:

Seeing the Minneapolis duo, Red Pens, is like witnessing a demonstration, a demonstration in raw sonic bliss. Howard Hamilton III is a string-bending master who knows how to make feedback work to his advantage. His confident vocal stylings, coupled with drummer Laura Bennett's all or nothing kit pounding, are about as uniquely refreshing as it gets these days. The stage is littered with junk shop amps and guitars Hamilton seems to almost get tangled up in while he and Bennett exchange doses... Read more about Red Pens on Last.fm.

From last.fm:

“It's got a fuzzed-out doo-wop feeling, and all the songs are about girls!” says Sleeping in the Aviary’s Elliott Kozel. "It’s like Dion and the Belmonts with a hangover trying to figure out how to use a Big Muff pedal, or the Everly Brothers beating up some kid in the bathroom of a high-school gymnasium and then feeling bad about it later.” He’s describing the band’s fourth full-length album, You and Me, Ghost, set for release by Science of Sound Records on September 6, 2011. From last.fm:

Jackie Beckey, Crystal Brinkman & Crystal Myslajek are Brute Heart, from Minneapolis. Brute Heart formed in 2007 after Myslajek and Beckey, who were next-door neighbors, joined musical forces while both working on the BareBones Puppet Theater’s annual show in Hidden Falls Park. Beckey was directing the music and Myslajek was in the band. Driving to a catering job at a flower farm in Wisconsin, Myslajek mentioned to Brinkman, who was her co-worker, that she and Beckey were looking for a drummer. From last.fm:

For such a patently American locale, the Twin Cities have lacked a remarkable group that evokes the American rock canon in a classic manner for a long time. Enter Night Moves. Formed in 2009 by guitarist and vocalist John Pelant, bassist Micky Alfano and multi-instrumentalist Mark Ritsema, Night Moves is a distinctly original concoction. Their honey-dipped sound seethes with a kind of down-home tenderness -- and like the best glittering music -- the arrangements are colossal in shape. Night Moves’ powerful debut Colored Emotions is this Minneapolis group’s first album. Read more about Night Moves on Last.fm.
