Portugal. The Man is an experimental indie rock four-piece centered on frontman John Baldwin Gourley’s abstract musical approach and corresponding upbringing. He was raised in a sort of technological isolation: his log cabin home in the winter wasteland of the fringes of Wasilla, Alaska was powered by a generator and had no telephone. Both of his parents helped completely immerse him in the unique lifestyle that comes with a land of seasonal darkness and perpetual cold with their jobs as dog sled mushers. Read more about Portugal. Nurses have often been described as "off-kilter psych-pop". Longtime friends and band members Aaron Chapman and John Bowers originally hail from Idaho Falls, ID. After brief stints of relocating and several incarnations of the band, the two have since settled in Portland, Oregon since 2008 with the addition of band member James Mitchell. Nurse's full length Apple's Acre was released by the well respected indie label Dead Oceans on August 4, 2009 and a follow-up full length is set to be released in the summer/fall of 2011.
