There are three bands called The Suburbs: 1 - Minneapolis new wavers the Suburbs began recording for local label Twin/Tone in 1978. Their first full-length album, In Combo, was released in 1980, featuring tense, energetic playing and offbeat lyrics. The 1981 double album Credit in Heaven consolidated the band's approach, incorporating elements of disco and blue-eyed soul. The 12" single "Waiting" got the band substantial play in dance clubs and attracted the attention of Mercury, which signed them in 1983 and re-released their Dream Hog EP. Now known as "the Godfathers of the Twin Cities punk music scene," The Suicide Commandos were formed in 1974 when Chris Osgood and Dave Ahl asked Steve Almaas to join their new band, named after a 1969 Aldo Ray movie. Their creed was simple: play fast & loud, and have fun. By 1975, the band had begun to build a following at The Blitz Bar in the basement of The Roaring Twenties strip club in downtown Minneapolis.
