What Made Milwaukee Famous is an indie pop-rock band based in Austin, Texas. The band met in 2002 through an ad placed in the alternative Austin paper The Austin Chronicle. Band members spent their entire first year getting to know one another before presenting themselves to the public. Their first album Trying to Never Catch Up was released in 2005 and was very well received. Singer Michael Kingcaid attributes much of his singing style to Jeff Buckley, and the rest of the band members boast a wide array of musical influences. From last.fm:

Portage started writing music together in Duluth, MN in early 2011. What was intended to be a somber, acoustic duo quickly changed into something much noisier and more rooted in R&B than they would've imagined. The band quickly found themselves sharing stages and living rooms with bands Trampled By Turtles, Peter Wolf Crier, and The Black Eyed Snakes. Portage now calls Minneapolis their home. From last.fm:

Singer-songwriter Hugh Robert Masterson grew up in Butternut, Wisconsin - a quaint but fading small town with decrepit mills, dirt roads, farms, beat down bars, and a population of 300. “It’s the kind of place where the silence is deafening and the stars are so bright you can feel nothing but humbled,” says Masterson. His band Hugh Bob and The Hustle and their masterful self-titled debut album brings to life this slice of classic Americana with ruggedly poetic lyrics and sweetly winsome roots rock.
