Murzik is a Dark Folk / neofolk band formed in Minneapolis, Minneapolis in 2003. The band started out by experimenting with mixing old eastern European folk and midwest Americana sounds together to form a sound which they coined as Dark Folk. Murzik claims its influences from more traditional artists such as Vysotsky, Leonard Cohen, and Edith Piaf which can be seen in Murziks romanticized soundscapes and dark poetic lyrics. James Apollo ( b. 1980) is a U.S. songwriter and musician. Apollo was born on 25th December 1980 in North-West Arkansas, and spent his formative years in Minneapolis, San Francisco, New York, and Tennessee. He currently lives and works in Silverton, Colorado, and New York City. He is best known for creating emotionally textured soundscapes, often including musical and lyrical references to William Faulkner, Tom Waits, and classic Americana of the Western U.S. His songs have been featured in a number of independent films, including the 2009 feature, Sun Dogs.
